Privacy Policy

eSignChoice is an independent editorial publication that reviews and compares electronic signature software. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit eSignChoice, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over that data. It applies to all pages served from esignchoice.com and our five language editions.

We follow the principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and we apply the same baseline globally — regardless of where you read us from.

1. Who we are (data controller)

eSignChoice is the editorial publication operating esignchoice.com. For the purposes of GDPR, eSignChoice is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. You can reach us at editorial@esignchoice.com or via the contact page.

2. What we collect

We deliberately collect as little as possible. The categories are:

  • Analytics data (aggregated). Page views, approximate country, device type, referring page, time on page, and the navigation path within the site. Collected via Google Analytics 4. Used solely to understand which content serves readers and to improve editorial coverage.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. Strictly necessary cookies (e.g. language preference) and — with your consent where required — analytics and advertising cookies. See Section 6.
  • Email correspondence. If you email us, we keep the message and your address to reply and to maintain a record of the conversation.
  • Server logs. Standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, user-agent) generated by our hosting provider, retained for security and debugging.

3. What we do not collect

  • We do not require an account to read content.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data to third parties.
  • We do not run cross-site tracking beyond what Google Analytics and AdSense use for their stated purposes.
  • We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

4. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)

  • Legitimate interests — for security logs, basic site analytics, and editorial improvement.
  • Consent — for analytics and advertising cookies in jurisdictions where consent is required (EEA, UK, Switzerland). You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contract / pre-contract — for email correspondence you initiate.

5. Third-party services

eSignChoice relies on a small set of third-party services. Each is named here, with the purpose and a link to its own privacy policy so you can review or opt out.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand site traffic in aggregate. Google may receive your IP address (truncated where applicable), device information, and the pages you visit. We have enabled IP anonymisation and we do not connect Analytics data to any other Google product where the data could be used for advertising. Google AdSense

eSignChoice displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, in line with Google's ad personalisation rules. Third-party vendors, including Google, also use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to your website or other websites.

Affiliate networks and direct partner programs

When you click an affiliate link to a vendor (e.g. DocuSign, PandaDoc, Sign.Plus), the vendor or its affiliate network receives a referral identifier so any resulting signup can be attributed to eSignChoice. The destination then operates under its own privacy policy. We do not pass any personal data we hold about you to these partners. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full list.

Hosting and CDN

The site is served by our hosting and CDN provider. Standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, user-agent) are retained for security and debugging, then deleted on a rolling basis.

6. Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. eSignChoice uses cookies in three categories:

  • Strictly necessary — language preference, consent state. Always active. Cannot be disabled without breaking the site.
  • Analytics — set by Google Analytics 4 (e.g. _ga, _ga_*). Used to count visits and understand which pages help readers.
  • Advertising — set by Google AdSense and its partners. Used to serve and measure ads. May include personalised advertising where you have consented.

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting analytics or advertising cookies. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via your browser settings or by clearing cookies for this site.

7. Data retention

  • Google Analytics 4 data: 14 months (Google default).
  • Email correspondence: kept while the conversation is active and then archived for up to 24 months.
  • Server logs: typically 30 days.
  • Consent records (cookie banner): up to 12 months.

8. International transfers

Some of our third-party processors (notably Google) are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or the UK, the transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension, or by Standard Contractual Clauses, depending on the vendor.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of these rights:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data, subject to legal obligations.
  • Objection / restriction — object to or restrict certain processing, such as analytics.
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, with no effect on past processing.
  • CCPA — California residents have the right to know what we collect, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. eSignChoice does not sell personal information.
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

10. Children's privacy

eSignChoice is intended for adult buyers of software. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. We restrict access to operational accounts to the editorial team and apply standard account hygiene. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy as the law evolves or as our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged clearly on the site for a reasonable period.
